Senior Quantity Surveyor


£65,000 + £70,000 + Package


Ashbys Consulting are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on a large mixed-use residential scheme in Oxfordshire. You will be creating and managing development budgets whilst forecasting and minimising risk. You will competitively procure and manager all subcontract aspects of a high-rise development, and collaborate with other departments to provide input, advice and ensure developments are value engineered wherever possible. You will also be producing regular monthly reports on cost movements and budget variations.



  • At least 5 years’ experience as a surveyor within low-rise residential construction
  • Established good working relationships with a wide range of subcontractors
  • Good organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects to a high degree of quality and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external customers
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Good leadership qualities, and the ability to coach others
  • Driving licence essential


Main Duties:

  • Review internal and external specification and assess cost impacts
  • Prepare tender enquiry lists and packages, including scopes of works
  • Procure subcontract packages to specification and budget, ensuring all bids are fully compliant and on a ‘like-for-like’ basis
  • Negotiate best value whilst maintaining expected levels of quality and workmanship
  • Follow Group procurement procedures
  • Work with the Technical Department to value engineer developments and reduce build cost
  • Work with the Production Department during procurement and throughout the build process to ensure smooth construction and swift conflict resolution
  • To review, manage and minimise dayworks, variations and other non-productive costs
  • Settlement of final accounts for each trade
  • Provide accurate cost data for future site viabilities and budgets
  • Create and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with subcontractors through regular liaison, teamwork and information sharing
  • Maintain an accurate and stable build cost base
  • Forecast and mitigate cost risk
  • Generate accurate payments in a timely manner in accordance with authorisation levels and commercial procedures
  • Report on cost movements and budgets as required
  • Comply with and promote Group procedures and Vision statements surrounding sustainability, ethics, etc.
  • Monitor and feedback on subcontractor performance
  • Additional tasks as reasonably required from time to time
