Working for the sustainability team with our client, your role will be to work alongside other consultants in assisting with the preparation of sustainability assessments and the delivery of accompanying consultancy services.

Your day-to-day activities will include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Undertake the BREEAM project management for a variety of buildings and masterplans;
  • Be involved at key stages of projects;
  • Liaising with client stakeholders to develop the sustainability strategy including criteria for the delivery of the desired BREEAM rating, identifying any sustainability risks and appropriate mitigation measures and highlighting any opportunities to increase sustainable credentials;
  • Providing strategic low energy design advice;
  • Be client facing, proactive and solutions driven;
  • Working as part of multidisciplinary team by chairing and conducting BREEAM pre-assessment meetings whilst providing design advice and informing the project team of scheme requirements; 
  • Have a holistic understanding and grasp of the issues that influence and impact performance;
  • Identify opportunities and avoid conflicting or unintended consequences;
  • Producing evidence requirements for BREEAM credits;
  • Undertaking gap analysis reports and/ or schedules (where the desired rating hasn’t been achieved);
  • Publishing pre-assessment meeting minutes stating the potential building score achievable and advise on techniques suitable for integration into the overall design;
  • Chairing design team workshops with the project team to clarify requirements or re-assess the design (should any changes take place impacting the BREEAM rating);
  • Monitoring the design process to ensure that the scheme objectives are being followed and the client’s requirements are reflected;
  • Coordinate the project team for efficient assessment;
  • Preparing design stage assessment trackers and reports for client review and submission to the BRE;
  • Impartially identify, communicate and report areas of compliance and non-compliance;
  • Gathers and references evidence of compliance;
  • Upholds the credibility of BREEAM to ensure the certification is robust and comparable;
  • Providing a delivery assurance/ support process to ensure the BREEAM requirements are being followed during the construction phase;
  • Undertaking site inspection to gather evidence.

Skills required:

  • Strong communication; 
  • Confident in report writing; 
  • Research-orientated; 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent time management; 
  • Flexible/able to adapt;
  • Task focused;
  • Able to work to deadlines. 

  Desired Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject;
  • BREEAM Assessor (New Construction and/ or Refurbishment and Fit-out) accreditation;
  • Sustainability Champion/ Advisory Professional (AP) accreditation;
  • At least 3 years’ experience within the industry.

  • Ensuring that work is double-checked for errors and consistency
  • Ability to identify opportunities through understanding a prospective client and their needs;
  • Ability to identify and mitigate by taking appropriate action using professional and technical expertise;
  • Ability to identify intervention in areas where knowledge or skill is not held by the individual/ team;
  • Ability to identify project risks and mitigate them in advance.
