The Senior Design Manager will lead the technical delivery, coordination, and integration of complex MEP engineering designs across building and infrastructure projects. This role requires expert-level engineering knowledge, advanced understanding of multidisciplinary interfaces, and the ability to manage detailed design production from concept to construction. You will ensure engineering accuracy, regulatory compliance, and seamless delivery of coordinated MEP systems within digitally enabled design environments (BIM/Revit).

Reponsibilites:

  • Define and manage design programmes across multiple complex projects, ensuring alignment with project milestones, procurement strategies, and construction sequencing.

  • Develop comprehensive design deliverable matrices, including drawing lists, calculation schedules, specifications, BIM models, and interdisciplinary coordination outputs.

  • Establish and maintain clear design communication protocols, ensuring consistent information flow between mechanical, electrical, public health and specialist engineering streams.

  • Review and provide technical oversight of Lead Consultant outputs, including project administration records, design progress reports, risk registers, decision logs, and meeting minutes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with contractual obligations.

  • Chair multidisciplinary design team meetings, coordinating internal engineering teams, architectural partners, specialist consultants, and Tier 1 contractors to resolve technical issues and maintain design continuity.

  • Set up client technical approval workflows, including submission formats, comment cycles, stage‐gate requirements, and compliance checklists, ensuring transparency and traceability in the approval process.

  • Develop internal quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) protocols, including design review processes, interdisciplinary checks, technical audits, and sign-off procedures.

  • Ensure design teams are positioned for success from project outset, including establishing roles and responsibilities, confirming scope boundaries, defining technical standards, onboarding teams to project data environments (CDE/BIM 360), and identifying project risks early.
