A leading pure building service consultancy are looking for a building physics specialist based out of their modern office in London. Our client has been established over 9 years and the practice has grown its knowledge and expertise to offer a compressive building services consultancy, working on projects across the UK. Our client works on a number of projects across a wide range of sectors. They also continue to develop strong working relationships, and value their repeat business client base which is one of the key reasons behind their success. This is a great opportunity for an experienced building physics consultant who wants to take on a new challenge and immerse themselves in the delivery of exciting projects who is looking to progress in their career. They currently have around 75 strong M+E engineers and growing. There is a real buzz and sense of pride in this office with a very low turnaround of staff.
You will be part of a team that shape building design for the better, reducing environmental impact and improving occupant comfort and satisfaction. Your key responsibilities will include investigations, feasibility studies, preparation of associated reports, and calculations relating to low energy and sustainable building design. This will include designing and assessing whole buildings for Part L compliance using IES VE software – with a focus on minimising CO2 emissions and mitigating summer overheating. You will also be learning passive design principles, including the Passivhaus Standard as part of the clients approach to sustainable buildings. This is a technical role, requiring a high degree of numeracy and an ability to unravel complex technical puzzles to guide our clients and design partners in key project decisions. We get involved in everything from solar modelling of site masterplans to detailed finite element modelling of individual building fabric components. It all counts, as we deliver highly sustainable buildings.
Familiarity with a 3D building energy modelling package is essential, and experience of IES-VE in particular is preferred. Likewise, any training in, or familiarity with the Passivhaus Standard would be an advantage, alongside related building physics disciplines such as natural daylight design. There will be opportunities for training through our Academy programme to help achieve Chartered Engineer status.
