Engineering Director – Energy & Decarbonisation

Are you ready to lead the transition to a low-carbon future?

A growing, purpose-driven organisation in the energy sector is seeking an experienced and visionary Engineering Director to lead a high-performing design and engineering team. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, strategic direction, and impactful delivery across renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

What You’ll Be Leading:

As Engineering Director, you'll oversee the full project lifecycle, from concept to construction. You’ll drive technical leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement across a portfolio of innovative decarbonisation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with long-term growth and operational goals.

  • Project Oversight: Ensure successful delivery of complex energy projects on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.

  • Team Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire engineering professionals, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture.

  • Budget & Resource Management: Oversee engineering budgets, allocate resources effectively, and ensure cost control.

  • Risk & Compliance: Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all design codes, regulations, and environmental standards.

  • Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce quality control processes to ensure excellence in engineering outputs.

  • Technology Integration: Drive the adoption of digital tools (e.g., BIM, CAD, energy modelling, project software) to increase efficiency and precision.

  • Performance Reporting: Track engineering performance metrics, prepare insights, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the key liaison across internal teams, clients, contractors, and senior leadership.

  • Design Management: Lead design processes from RIBA Stage 2 to 4C, while providing advisory support through Stages 5 to 7.

  • Business Strategy: Contribute to organisational growth by identifying emerging technologies, new markets, and strategic opportunities.

    What You Bring:

  • Proven leadership in engineering within renewable energy, infrastructure, or decarbonisation.

  • Strong technical expertise and working knowledge of design and construction standards.

  • A deep understanding of energy systems, sustainable design, or low-carbon technologies.

  • Skilled in managing multi-disciplinary teams across multiple live projects.

  • Adept at navigating complex stakeholder environments, including commercial, procurement, legal, and SHEQ.

  • Confident communicator, comfortable leading meetings, delivering presentations, and representing the business externally.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance detail and big-picture thinking.

Why This Role?

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of sustainable energy infrastructure while leading a team that sits at the heart of strategy, innovation, and delivery. You’ll be empowered to influence business direction and play a critical role in advancing the net-zero transition.
